"Cassandra in Greek legend, you recall, was condemned to know the future but to be disbelieved when she foretold it. Hence the agony of foreknowledge combined with the impotence to do anything about it." - Dr. Kathryn Railly
Twelve Monkeys was a 90's cult classic that a few of my Main Title Design classmates and I wanted to collaborate on redesigning. Our goal was to pay homage to elements of the original title sequence and maintain the era's feel, while applying modern techniques learned from Ash Thorp. Because the movie is centered around time travel, we wanted to visually represent the cycles with circular aspects. An equally important theme was the inescapability of fate, which set the stage for darker tones in our frames and visuals that express being trapped. Incorporating iconic movie details, as well as flow between frames was definitely something we collectively agreed was crucial. I acted as Creative Lead on this project and outlined our overall focus and artistic direction. Eventually, I would like to fine tune color grading and keep consistent aesthetic style with this project and with projects moving forward.
Working with several talented individuals was a challenging but extrememly rewarding experience. Special thanks to Ash Thorp for being a great mentor, Robbie Tilton and Justin Weiss for doing an amazing job helping rendering, modeling, compositing and post processing.
